Under Rs 1 Lakh for an Electric Scooter. Honda U-Go Will Be India's First EV Scooter With A Range Of 130 Km.

Honda has recently made headlines for a prospective electric scooter launch in India. Honda U-Go, an electric scooter that the company initially launched in China last year, is currently the race's frontrunner. With a range of 130 kilometers and a price comparable to the majority of the possibilities in this category, the e-scooter may be on its way to India, according to a recent update.

Honda is said to have applied for a design patent for its U-Go electric scooter in India. The patent was filed with the appropriate authorities in August, but it has only recently surfaced online. It does not yet divulge any details about the electric scooter. Though the design indicates that the internationally sold U-Go will have the same visual appeal when it is launched in India.

This refers to a lightweight and simplistic design that is typical of an entry-level electric scooter. For comparison, the U-Go made its debut in China in August of last year for RMB 7,499, or around Rs 86,000. There is a step-up version with a larger battery and motor that costs RMB 7,999 (about Rs 92,000). So, if the e-scooter makes its way to India, we can expect it to cost between Rs 90,000 and Rs 1 lakh for the base model.

Aside from the low price and simple design, the Honda U-Go has some standout qualities. It has a triple-beam LED headlamp and LED turn indicators on the front, as well as DRLs. The e-scooter boasts sharp body panels across the frame, round rear view mirrors in the front, and a floating-type LED tail light at the back, giving it a pretty distinguished appearance. There is, of course, an LCD panel that displays battery, speed, range, and other statistics.

With just one look at the Honda U-Go, you can tell what it was designed for. If not, the Honda U-Go is classified as an electric moped in China. As a result, the e-scooter is designed to assist regular urban travelers while not adding to traffic congestion or harming the environment. Nonetheless, it can travel longer distances than many other electric scooters. The business promises a range of 133 kilometers on a single charge.

This range is achievable with two 48V 30Ah lithium-ion battery packs. By default, the electric scooter may come with a single battery pack with a range of approximately 65 kilometers. These batteries are also detachable, allowing riders to unplug them from the scooter and charge them at home.

A 1200W hub-mounted motor propels the bike to a top speed of 53 kmph. On the cheaper variant, this is reduced to an 800W motor with a top speed of 43 kmph. The front wheel is a 12-inch alloy with a telescopic fork and disc brake, while the rear has twin shock absorbers and a 10-inch wheel with a drum brake. The U-Go has a kerb weight of 83 kg.

For the time being, the U-Go appears to be Honda's first formal entrance into the Indian electric two-wheeler market. This is not assured, as the company has previously registered design patents in the country for electric scooters but has yet to launch any of them. This time, the conviction stems from Honda's recent vow to focus on electric vehicles in all forms. It remains to be seen whether U-Go is a part of this plan in India.
