Build Your Dreams, or BYD appears to be the next company to launch an electric SUV in India. Several reports have suggested that the Chinese automaker will soon launch its Atto 3 electric SUV in the country, which will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Kona EV and the MG ZS EV. Things are now official, and the EV's launch in India could be just a few weeks away.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Atto 3 has gained public attention. The battery-powered SUV is currently available in several other countries, even under the name BYD Yuan Plus, and will only be available in India after a successful run in international markets. In India, this will be BYD's second product on the market, and it is clear that the company will go to great lengths to attract attention for its launch.

The car's recent teasers attest to this. In the run-up to the launch, BYD has released a series of short videos on its online channels, giving us a first look at the all-electric SUV. Even those who are unfamiliar with the Atto 3's international presence now have an idea of what to expect from its upcoming India launch. According to the teasers, the SUV will have a bold and streamlined design, with LED lights adorning its width at the back.

Naturally, anticipation for the BYD Atto 3 is high, as electric SUVs of this type are the highlights of India's ongoing transition to EVs. It is expected to emerge in the second week of October, with some reports putting the exact date as October 11. We've seen a leaked brochure of the car defining its specifications and features, and we've even seen spy shots of it doing the rounds on the internet in the run-up to its release. Here's a rundown of everything we know so far about the BYD Atto 3.

BYD Atto 3 Design

While we've already seen the international model, the BYD Atto 3 has been spotted in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, ahead of its India debut. The electric SUV has a dynamic presence on the road, thanks to a design that is accented by curves and contours all over. Its back end cascades onto an LED strip that runs the width of the car, giving it an appealing design. Extremely sleek headlamps adorn the extreme edges of the front, right over large air vents that thin out in the middle.

According to the leaked brochure, the upcoming BYD Atto 3 electric SUV will be 4,455mm long, 1,875mm wide, and 1,615mm tall. It will have a 2,720mm wheelbase. The Atto 3 will be noticeably larger than its competitors with these dimensions.

BYD Atto 3 Specifications

In terms of the numbers that will power the electric SUV, the BYD Atto 3 is expected to have two battery pack options: a 49.92kWh battery pack and a larger 60.48kWh battery pack. The former claims to provide a range of approximately 345km (WLTP), whereas the larger 60.48kWh battery pack can increase this to 420km on a full charge.

The Atto 3 is powered by an electric motor that produces 201bhp of peak power and 310Nm of peak torque. This allows the electric SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 7.3 seconds. We may see an electronic limit on the car's acceleration and top speed.

BYD Atto 3 Features

The Level-2 autonomous driving system, which will enable features such as adaptive cruise control with stop & go function, lane-keeping assist, auto emergency braking, forward collision warning, door open warning, blind-spot monitoring system, and more, will be one of the highlights of BYD's upcoming electric SUV.

BYD Atto 3 Expected Price

BYD's Atto 3 electric SUV is expected to be priced similarly to the Hyundai Kona. This means that the Atto 3 could be launched in India soon, with an ex-showroom price ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh. It will be interesting to see how the electric car performs in the Indian market for the price it is asking.
